The Curated Plate

We’ve had to sit on our hands these past weeks to keep the launch of Australia’s most exciting food festival a secret! Thankfully, this amazing four day food festival is now launched and we can start to share some of what’s happening.

The Curated Plate is a four day food extravaganza right here in our backyard of The Sunny Coast! Eep! We’re feeling pretty stoked to be the chosen home for this food fiesta, and fiesta it will be. As well as a host of collaboration dinners and famous chefs flying in from around the globe, there will be jet ski adventures , beach BBQs, and dinners under the stars.

But wait, there’s more. Groundskeeper Willie will be hosting a series of coffee and tea workshops to show ya’ll how to make some cool recipes and take coffee well beyond a morning ritual.

While we all thought he was just bumming around, all that time in Aspen and Edinburgh mixing cocktails at swanky bars has paid off for Will, and now he’s ready to share his mixology magic.

So save the date - August 8-11, 2019 and here’s a sneak peek…

We’ll release more info soon on what’s going on with The Curated Plate. In the meantime follow along our pages on Facebook/Insta!

Sunshine and Pineapples

A Sunshine Coast event at the Big Pineapple… it’s a match made in heaven. The Food and Agribusiness Network (FAN) is hosting a Meet the Makers event showcasing the best of our local food and agribusiness industry, and you can come along!

Stretching right across the Greater Sunshine Coast - Gympie, Noosa, Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay, the network has over 260 members from across the food value chain. From chocolate to fingerlimes, honey to beer… it’s all here in our Sunny Coast bowl of goodness!

Yours truly will be rolling in and serving up samples for you all to try. There may even be a surprise in store.

Most of all we’re just excited to get to try all the other exhibitor’s samples, while mid-renovation we don’t get out as much as we’d like these days.

sunshine coast coffee goes reusable

Did you know that the vast majority of coffee bags in Australia aren’t recyclable? Yep, that’s a whole lot of packaging going to waste all over Australian homes and cafes.

When we designed our coffee bags we ended up being really disheartened with the bag options available. A few beers later, we ended up going with a box. Our boxes are made from 100% recycled cardboard, and are completely reusable. Yep, not only recyclable… but reusable!

Keep the coffee card (there’s information on the farm and processing on the back!) and bring back your box for a free coffee. A bit more work if you live in Perth or Jakarta but we’ll know you care.

And for even more impact for our wholesale accounts; cafes, restaurants and bars we deliver in completely reusable Willie pails. They look great in your cafe, have an airtight seal and we’ll pick them up just like your milk crates. Because not only the planet… but who needs that extra run to the bin?

Moffat Beach Coffee

We have moved!

We’re one step closer to having our roastery, coffee shop and tea bar all under ONE ROOF!

If you’ve visited us before in Moffat Beach, we’re now across the road. About, let’s say, 100m from our previous location. Right in between Tribal Fitness and Powerlife keeping our energy high.

We’ll miss our 4 Ingredient neighbours terribly but you all have promised to make the enormous walk (!) across the road… so we’ll see you there soon!

Dogs are welcome as always, and there’s still plenty of parking now with lots more shady space to hang out.

Come check out our new digs and what’s going to be a great community space in the near future.

Judging, day two at the Golden Bean AU/NZ 2018

We`ll admit, it was a bit of a last minute scramble. Our Colombia beans had only arrived a day before we had to send off our entry so it was a `first roast… fingers crossed` kinda day!

The calibre of coffee at this years Golden Bean was exceptional, we tasted some incredible coffees and are so humbled to be considered up there with Australia and New Zealands’ best.

The conference itself was fantastic, and it was such fun to catch up with roasters from Canada, the U.S., Australia and NZ and the many beers helped keep the espresso jitters at bay.

Speaking of beer, we had to sadly fly out before the awards dinner so will have to find another opportunity to whip out the medieval gear. Will does rock a knight costume.

See you next year Port Macquarie, we had a blast.

New Filter - Don Sabino Washed!

Toot the horn! We’ve just put our first boxes of one of our favourite filter coffees, Don Sabino’s washed process on the shelf. This filter coffee is clean, crisp and reminds us of those red candy apples you almost broke your teeth on as a kid.

Don Sabino Coffee

We visited Don back in February on his small coffee farm La Fuente in Nicaragua with Ben from Gold Mountain Coffee Growers (a very handy translator as our Spanish is basic at best), just outside Jinotega.

The farm sits at 1400m and produces both Catuai and Caturra. At the end of a long day of farm visits, we rolled down one VERY steep driveway (ask Will about his newly found 4WD skills) and bumped our way to a very modest, but warm and inviting family home.

Inside, we met Don, his wife, 3 small children and their cute dog who couldn’t get enough of a tummy scratch.

With the premium price Don received for his outstanding coffee he wished to improve some of the buildings and processing equipment on the farm. With new raised beds last year, Don experimented with his very first natural processed coffee, where the cherries are dried whole. If you’re after an even wilder ride with Don’s coffee, we’ll have some of the natural in the coming months!

If you’re new to filter, check out our brew guides or give us a shout, we’ll happily show you some tips. Enjoy this coffee, we sure are.

… Is Don, is good!

BYO Cup

Coming down to our Moffat Beach Pop Up? We make every effort to ensure that we are a responsible cafe and we encourage you to BYO cup and save 50c when you do.

If you don’t have your BYO cup on you, no worries. We get it, sometimes coffee just calls! Our takeaway cups are 100% biodegradable (including the lid!).

We also sell our Willie meet Frank - Frank Green Coffee Cups for sale. Coffee’s on us when you buy one!

We look forward to being able to offer even more sustainable options in the future when we have a permanent space. As we’ll have everything including that ol’ kitchen sink!

Until then… bring down your keep cups! Good for the planet, fun for all.

Pups and Chinos

Wow, what an amazing turnout for our first Pups and Chinos event raising money for the Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge!

If you haven’t noticed by now, we’re CRAZY about dogs and our mission is to improve the lives of dogs both locally and beyond, in the coffee regions we source from. We donate an ongoing $1 a kilo to dog organisations and this was the first of many events to raise some further funds for our current cause, Sunshine Coast Animal Rescue.

Together with Noosa Dog Cakes biscuits, and delicious banana ‘n bacon pupcakes we served over 90 puppaccinos to the most amazing (and furry) customers!

  • Celebrating Ruby’s 4th birthday with a puppaccino (complete with tutu! so cute!)

  • Commenting on how quiet the dogs were being, only to hear a sudden bark-fiesta!

  • Dogs of all shapes and sizes sniffing out new friends and enjoying a fun day out!
